Ballast Water Treatment system

A system designed to remove and destroy/inactive biological organisms (zooplankton, algae, bacteria) from ballast water, it is still evolving technology with an ever-growing number of manufacturers.

Why need BWTs?

The aim of ballast water treatment is the elimination of invasive marine species. The USDA reports that ballast water is “one of the major pathways for the introduction of non-indigenous marine species.” When ships release ballast water at a new port-of-call, they risk introducing alien species, from small fish to microorganisms, into the water around the new area. This can result in a variety of harmful effects; the European Maritime Safety Agency credit invasive marine species with microbial exposure, lower habitat quality, and other dangers that can ultimately harm fishing and even protected species in the region.

GUARDIAN ADVANTAGES

  • High-powered UV lamps extend the water quality range for reliable operation.
  • Intuitive design of the user interface ensures crews cannot mistakenly operate the system incorrectly.
  • Remote access allows for easy integration with central automation systems and permits troubleshooting and repairs even before the vessel
    arrives in port

PERFECT FOR RETROFIT INSTALLATIONS

  • Simple design delivered as individual components or on an optional skid.
  • Easily installed in existing ships with small machinery spaces.
  • Combines efficient filtration with powerful UV disinfection.
  • Standard systems available for flow rates from 60 m3/hr to 1000m3/hr.
  • Higher flow rates easily achieved through parallel treatment trains

our partner

Hyde Marine

Hyde Marine is more than just the best ballast water treatment system on the market. Hyde Marine is a company of firsts, a company that identified a way to use our expertise and experience to shepherd a reluctant industry through the difficult ratification of the 2004 IMO Ballast Water Convention. We sold the first ballast water treatment system to the Royal Princess, installed the longest-continually-running ballast water treatment system onboard the M/V Coral Princess, and achieved IMO Type Approval for our product in 2008 and then again with our completely re-designed second generation product in 2014.
